Ellijai – Bad Timing

Emerging Scottish artist Ellijai releases “Bad Timing.”
At 17, Ellijai is shaping a sound that’s dark, cinematic and alive with raw emotion. Her songs carry the weight of truth — sharp, atmospheric, and impossible to ignore — and her voice leaves a mark that lingers long after the last note.
Seven months of performing solo under her own name, Ellijai was nominated for the 2025 Scottish Live Music Awards.
Since releasing her debut single “Floating in the Flood” at just 15 in June 2024, Ellijai has been steadily carving out her place in the music scene — shaping a sound that blends dark-pop, alt-pop, and indie rock into something entirely her own. That release — followed by two more singles backed by BBC Introducing — marked the start of a new chapter, building momentum toward an album planned for 2026. Her deep connection to live music runs through everything she does; The years of growing up performing didn’t just sharpen her skills — they built the fearless stage presence and creative drive that now define her.
Ellijai’s music stands out for its emotional precision and fearlessness. She writes with the kind of honesty that can feel like a punch in the chest one moment and a spark that lights something deep inside you the next. Her lyrics cut straight to the core — sometimes uncomfortably so — but always with purpose. There’s a uniqueness in her delivery that makes her voice instantly recognisable, a subtle reminder of where she comes from even when her sound pulls from across the globe. She draws inspiration from artists like Lola Young, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, Wolf Alice, Suki Waterhouse, and Lana Del Rey — all known for carving out their own space in music with distinctive voices and uncompromising artistry. Whether she’s behind a piano, guitar, or centre stage with a full band, Ellijai doesn’t just perform songs — she inhabits them, making every lyric feel like it’s unfolding in real time.
Her vision goes beyond stages — she wants to take her music worldwide, unapologetically flying the flag for her Scottish roots. She’s ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with her idols, not as a fan, but as an equal. Every song, every show, is another step toward becoming the kind of artist people remember for decade
