Lucky Iris – heart 4 heart

Today, future-pop provocateurs Lucky Iris share ‘heart 4 heart’, the latest single from their forthcoming new mixtape fall in love with the dj, out 23rd January via EMI North Records label partner Launchpad+ (Chiedu Oraka, Dilettante).
The release arrives on the heels of the Leeds duo’s first UK tour in support of Master Peace, including sold out dates in Nottingham and Southampton.
Widely praised for their boundary-pushing electro-pop production and searingly self-aware lyricism, ‘heart 4 heart’ sees songwriter-producer duo Maeve and Jasper lay their hearts bare, capturing the dizzying euphoria and aching vulnerability of falling completely, fearlessly in love.
“‘heart for heart’ is a simple trade, a heart for a heart, that’s it,” tells Maeve. “I just love love, but relationships are hard and giving someone your all is exposing. It’s a song about giving love your all and crossing your fingers and knowing that whatever happens, at least you tried. It’s exposing in its brutal soundscape and honest lyrics. I’ve never been one for keeping anything in, I wear my heart on my sleeve and all that, but it hasn’t always served me very well…always open but easily exposed. So this song is about reclaiming that vulnerability because I think it’s actually one of my best qualities. People can say I fall in love too hard, my response is, try falling at all.”
For Lucky Iris, music is a form of self-discovery, a tool for understanding themselves as much as for expression. Emerging from suburban Leeds during lockdown, the self-taught producers have continually reinvented their sound, fearlessly experimenting with new sounds, and weaving new dimensions into their ever-evolving artistic universe. The fall in love with the dj mixtape sees Lucky Iris collaborate with esteemed mixing engineer Richard Wilkinson (Adele, Bombay Bicycle Club, Kaiser Chiefs) and Latin Grammy nominated Felipe Arevalo, to deliver a masterclass in innovative, genre-blurring pop that pulses with the same unapologetic energy as Fcukers, Frost Children, and Confidence Man.
“‘fall in love with the dj’ is about finally making the music we want to hear,” says Maeve. “It’s about dancing, it’s about yearning, it’s about love and loss and most of all it’s about music.
Whatever it is, it’s crunchy, it’s pop music and ultimately, it’s meant to be enjoyed.”
Capping off their most vital year to date, Lucky Iris will continue their UK tour supporting Master Peace throughout November, with remaining performances in Norwich, Cardiff, and Margate.
