Where We Sleep – Headlong

Where We Sleep2

Where We Sleep release new single, “Headlong”, ahead of much awaited second album, The Arsonist, scheduled for release early next year.

The track is fully performed, recorded and produced by multi-instrumentalist Beth Rettig, complete with soaring vocals, bass, programmed synths and drums, with guitars supplied by Mark Wallbridge, the track is mixed and mastered by Guy Fixsen (My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Lush).

Rettig’s powerful vocals reach high octane in Headlong, ‘the chaos is coming from you…’ depicts parallel worlds, and outer lives emanating from a deep inner struggle projected onto the outside world. The track is a visceral, lush and immediate blast of dark pop, powered by driving beats and blazing guitars, think Garbage meets Nine Inch Nails, with hints of Automatic, She Drew The Gun and Joanna Touch, the guitars transport you into a futuristic sub-goth world, dark, enticing, chaotic and rousing depicted in a high-thrills car chase, as Rettig splits the scene.

Where We Sleep is the new canvas for Rettig to realise her musical vision, and to experiment and express a deeply personal and poetic vision, evolving from previous collaboration in “Blindness”, with Debbie Smith (Curve, Echobelly) signed to AC30 Records, and performing with the likes of Lene Lovitch and Viv Albertine.

With a host of on-off collaborators, Rettig crafts powerful hook-laden tracks that draw a direct lineage to influences from Garbage, Curve, PJ Harvey, Kate Bush, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Massive Attack, from which she paints her own odes to the broken. The project has led to a string of singles, including Veins and Crawl, and her debut album The Scars They Leave.
