Hannah Cohen – Flying Cloud Tapes

Earlier this year, Catskills-based singer/songwriter Hannah Cohen released her critically acclaimed album Earthstar Mountain via Congrats Records / Bella Union.

Today, she is excited to announce Flying Cloud Tapes, a collection of live performances filmed at Flying Cloud Studios at her home in the Catskills. The stunning first video for “Mountain” is available to watch today.
It features musicians Sam Evian (Guitar), Meg Lui (Harmony Vocal), Núria Graham (Bass), Santiago Mijares (Acoustic Guitar) and Sean Mullins (Drums). It was produced, engineered and mixed by Sam Evian.
Flying Cloud Recordings is an analogue recording studio in the Catskill Mountains of New York, owned and operated by producer/engineer Sam Evian, songwriter Hannah Cohen, and their rescue dog, Jan. Also the studio where Hannah Cohen’s most recent record Earthstar Mountain was created.
A retreat-style studio beloved by artists such as Big Thief, María Zardoya of The Marías, Clairo, Sufjan Stevens, Blonde Redhead, Cass McCombs, Palehound, Kate Bollinger, and many more, Flying Cloud captures the spirit of its surroundings—peaceful, grounded, and deeply creative.
Located in a renovated barn nestled in a mountain hollow—surrounded by streams, swimming holes, meadows, and forest—the studio invites a slower pace. Sessions at Flying Cloud revolve around homemade meals, hikes through the woods, and quiet reflection by the water—an environment where artists often find the space and focus to create their best work.
Cohen recently shared the Matthew Placek directed video for her single “Summer Sweat.”
“Mountain” will also be featured in the film REGRETTING YOU, and will be performing at the REGRETTING YOU: A Night of No Regrets Opening Night Fan Event along Sam Evian. This event, hosted live from AMC Lincoln Square in New York City on Thursday, October 23, and streamed nationally to over 500 theaters, will include a special introduction from Mckenna Grace featuring Cohen’s musical performance, followed by a screening of the film.
In November, Hannah Cohen will play headline dates in Brooklyn, Kingston and Philadelphia. Fans will also be able to catch her at Big Ears Festival and Treefort Music Festival in 2026. Cohen has been touring steadily in the US this past year, including support dates with Jeff Tweedy and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats as well as festival performances at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Pickathon, Sound & Gravity Festival and Pygmalion Festival.
Produced by Sam Evian and featuring many collaborators such as Sufjan Stevens, Clairo, Liam Kazar, Oliver Hill and Sean Mullins, Earthstar Mountain is a love letter to the Catskills and in the interconnectedness of all things: in her past, present, future and alternative selves, in her friends––here and gone––and in the mountain that peers through her windows.
Hannah Cohen is nestled in the center of a creative community. On one side is Cohen and her partner and collaborator Sam Owens––performing under the moniker Sam Evian––and on the other is their carousel of collaborators and friends. Cohen’s parents reside just down the street, and she sees them almost every day––“unusual, I know but we’re an unusual family” she says. Fittingly, after releasing her 2019 album Welcome Home, Cohen and Owens converted their mid-70s home and barn into a studio and retreat, Flying Cloud Recordings. Between sessions with artists like Big Thief, Cass McCombs, Blonde Redhead, Palehound and Helena Deland, tours with Owens and renovations in their home, and the nurturing of new friendships, Cohen maintained her ritual; she found quiet moments with her guitar, with the mountain as her witness.
Drawing from their shared love of Dusty Springfield, Gal Costa, Minnie Riperton, Ennio Morricone, Neil Young and Sly & The Family Stone, Cohen and Owens began to experiment with arrangements that feel both familiar and entirely new. They welcomed friends to the process––Sufjan Stevens, Sean Mullins, Oliver Hill, Claire Cottrill (Clairo), Liam Kazar and more––and it was the encouragement of those who most inspired her, and the quietude of her beautiful life, that the pieces of Earthstar Mountain started to make sense.
