Sophie Gault – Pocket Change

Americana rocker Sophie Gault unveils “Pocket Change,” the second single from her forthcoming album Unhinged. Originally written and recorded by acclaimed songwriter Mando Saenz, the song takes on new fire in Gault’s hands, marked by her gritty, late-night delivery and a special guest appearance from Saenz himself.
“I loved this song the second I first heard Mando’s version. The lyrics are great and I love the attitude,” Gault shares. “I tried to give it as much attitude as I could. It was an honor that we got him to sing on it and trade a few lines with me.” Driven by raw guitars and an unapologetic groove, Gault’s interpretation leans into the song’s swagger and spirit of self-determination. Trading lines with Saenz, she channels the defiance at the core of the lyrics, refusing to be anyone’s “pocket change,” while adding her own edge. The collaboration gives the track a playful, electric energy, blending Saenz’s original storytelling with Gault’s outlaw sensibility. The result is a bold reinterpretation that feels both timeless and newly urgent, bridging two distinctive voices in a way that feels effortless and natural. “Pocket Change” and Unhinged were produced by Alex Torrez (Torrez Music Group) and David Dorn (Braxton Keith, Gabe Lee), engineered and mixed by Grammy-award winner Brandon Bell (Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, Billy Strings), and mastered by Independent Mastering.

Due early next year, Unhinged is a high-octane ride through cowpunk Buck Owens, punked-up Robert Johnson, outlaw cruise mischief, blackjack tables, and backroom heartbreak. The record leans into risk and reinvention, capturing both the chaos and beauty of living unafraid. Across its ten tracks, Gault pairs late-night confessions with defiant self-assurance, pushing boundaries while staying rooted in the Americana tradition she both honors and subverts.
A Nashville-based Americana rocker with a midnight voice and an outlaw spirit, Sophie Gault has quickly become one of the most compelling figures in the Americana underground. Known for her biting songwriting, sly humor, and electric stage presence, she has built a reputation for creating music that is as raw and restless as it is intentional. Her songs stumble, wink, and bleed, refusing to fit neatly into boxes and instead leaning into chaos, reinvention, and emotional honesty. With Unhinged, Gault proves that life is too short to play it safe, crafting a body of work that honors tradition while kicking it over in the same breath. She performs regularly within the Nashville circuit, including performances at the revered Bluebird Cafe.
