Urge Surfer – Misnomers

Misnomers is the third release from Urge Surfer, a moody electro-pop duo from Buffalo, NY featuring Jordan Maelyn Smith and Chelsea O’Donnell.

While their previous release Alphabet Archive explored the shifting nature of language and its relationship to self identity, Misnomers digs deeper into how misunderstandings can lead one through the haze of heartache and awe. Lead track “Responsible” wrestles with a relationship in disarray as responsibility is debated and echoed with a stunning guest vocal by Sheena Ozzella (Lemuria).

“Public Exits” takes a decidedly more electro approach to the debate of whether to leave a stable career or not though a blitz of filter swept modular synths and an organ backed gang vocal, while the mournful “A-Line” conjures a haunting look at nostalgia through a weave of wurlitzer, toy pianos and stand up bass.

Sonically disparate, yet thematically tethered and oddly complimentary, this trio of tracks make up Misnomers.
