Slothrust – Wildcard

Slothrust are as funky, smooth, and eclectic as ever on their new EP, Wildcard — a fitting title for a band that always keeps listeners on their toes. The duo unveils Wildcard alongside focus track “Midnight Slay,” a sleek, seductive, and mischievous banger that builds into one of Wellbaum’s signature electric guitar eruptions — all swirling riffs and hook-laden choruses that leave you fully under her spell.

Nearly a decade since their fiercely innovative debut Of Course You Do, Slothrust remain one of indie rock’s most unpredictable acts. What began with a shared love of blues and jazz has evolved into a sound that pushes rock forward through unconventional, ever-expanding experimentation.

On the making of the EP, Wellbaum shares:

“The Wildcard EP is a collection of sassy summer songs meant to encourage you to laugh, dance, and be your weirdest, wackiest self in a time of great anxiety. We made these songs with our friend Willy Beaman — a virtuosic pianist and great producer. The three of us have really special chemistry, and making these songs together was a joyous and light-hearted experience. We followed what charmed us and leaned into keeping it silly.”

As expected from Slothrust, Wildcard is a genre-blurring, intoxicating ride — bold, chaotic, and entirely their own. Listeners are sure to be entertained, energized, and ready to rock.
