Mallory Hawk – Felicity

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mallory Hawk was raised in the southern military town of Fayetteville, North Carolina. A daughter of two music fanatics, Hawk’s devotion to rock music started as early as age 4. After finding a home in NYC’s DIY scene, she quietly worked on her own songs as she became well-known as a live bassist/vocalist for bands like Trace Mountains, Customer, and M(h)aol.
With an overflowing folder of demos and a newly-secured confidence, Hawk decided it was time to leave NYC and start saving money to make a record of her own. Calling on friend and producer Sam Acchione [Alex G, Girlpuppy, Winter], Hawk began tracking her solo album in Philadelphia which spans a lifetime of her influences and fuses punk, alt rock, and new-wave into Hawk’s singular sound. Her debut album, set to release in 2026, features many friends and collaborators who highlight Hawk’s passion and usher her unique voice to the forefront.
Today, ahead of a UK tour supporting M(h)aol, Hawk is sharing a first single from those sessions, a track called “Felicity.”
Accompanied by a video shot by Nara Avakian of the NYC band Nara’s Room, and featuring Craig Hendrix of Japanese Breakfast on drums, “Felicity” represents a tonal shift from the quieter singles Hawk released last April, expanding her palette in a heavier direction and hinting at the sonic diversity of her forthcoming new material.
Hawk says of the track:
“I wrote ‘Felicity’ over a drum loop in my bedroom in August 2024. It was a few weeks before I was due to move from NYC after 7 years and I was constantly reflecting on the exhaustion and deep loneliness that led me to my exit. I started to feel like a fool in a monotonous loop as i walked around doing my errands, everyone around me seemed to be happier and richer while I was constantly scrambling for brief moments of escape (aka “Felicity”). This all plays out in the video, shot by Nara Avakian of Nara’s Room (my fav NYC band right now). I wrote it right before I started tracking some songs at the Headroom with my friend/producer Sam Acchione and I sent him this demo pretty last minute. We were both stoked on it and ended up shelving one of my other demos and this was the very first song we worked on. The ever-groovy Craig Hendrix smacks the drum racks on this one.”
