bloom effect – Surreal

bloom effect is a shoegaze/dream-pop trio based in Vancouver, BC. Formed by Argentine-born vocalist/bassist Jula Lafit, UK-born guitarist Craig Weighman, and drummer Tom Rappa, the band crafts ethereal yet powerful soundscapes influenced by bands like Cocteau Twins and Alvvays.

Known for their bilingual lyrics and immersive live sets, the band has performed at festivals including JUNOFest, Westward Music Festival, Music Waste, and Desert Daze North, and opened for international acts Zoon and Ladytron.

Their debut live session, Once More with Feeling, recorded at Little Red Sound Studios, showcased their compelling performance style. In early 2025, they released portents—a 4-song EP via Shore Dive Records—described as a portal into their layered, emotionally charged sound.

This summer, they return with oscilón, a 6-song EP. A sonic vessel for cosmic, euphoric love, this record transcends the local and touches something universal. Released by cult Vancouver label Kingfisher Bluez—captivated after witnessing an intimate, deconstructed performance by the band—soon to be available digitally and on vinyl.

In September 2025, bloom effect will embark on their first East Coast tour across Ontario and Quebec, growing further their reach in the Canadian music scene.

Today they release new single “Surreal” as a preview of the new EP.
