Vidde Tuv – Start/Stop

Vilde Tuv by Willa Wathne2

Norwegian multi-disciplinary cult artist Vilde Tuv—hailed as “Norway’s finest one-woman orchestra”—returns with “Start/Stop,” the final single ahead of her anticipated third album, Truthbomb, out September 19th via Poesy Records.

Known for her bold, genre-defying fusion of sincerity and experimentation, Tuv has carved out a unique space in the Nordic avant-garde, with support from artists like Smerz and Jenny Hval, and appearances at international festivals including Le Guess Who?. Earlier this summer, she unveiled a new chapter in her sonic journey—singing in English for the first time—on the singles “Morning Wind” and “Solace in the Sun.” She also released a remix CD of “Solace in the Sun,” featuring Merely (Year0001) and DJ IBON (Bunkerbauer).

Out August 22nd, “Start/Stop” is a cinematic, rhythm-driven exploration of tension, impulse, and surrender. Channeling the textures of FKA Twigs and Laurie Anderson, the track pulses with minimalist electronics and experimental noise. It’s accompanied by a video directed by Maria Hilde, which follows Tuv on a surreal journey—caught between moving forward and the inertia of ordinary life.

On the track Tuv explains, “Start/Stop’” is about trying to control your life force by attempting to stop it.” “But the more you resist, the stronger it grows, until you realize the only way forward is surrender, and to let your heart burn up completely.”

With “Start/Stop,” Tuv freezes time in a hypnotic tension between movement and restraint. The track is both minimalist and monumental, mirroring the unstable rhythm of a heart torn between desire and hesitation.

Truthbomb

Truthbomb is the follow-up to the Award-winning album. Melting Songs (2021). While Melting Songs was an instrumental album characterized by drones, flutes, and fluid chords, Truthbomb is rhythmic and physical, drawing a line back to her 2016 debut D’meg.
