Ahana – In The Air

Indie-folk artist Ahana releases ‘In The Air’, a lively, violin-laced track created in collaboration with instrumentalist and producer Diogo Sarabando.
Recorded between a small-town Portuguese music school, Diogo’s old bedroom (also known as puppy garden studios), and Ahana’s grandparents’ house, it features backing vocals by her younger brother, and is accompanied by a music video, offering a visual rendering of its whimsy.
With its swooping harmonies and glistening strings, ‘In The Air’ thrums with hopefulness — reaching toward the bygone magic of childhood and asking, with aching curiosity, whether it was ever truly lost.
The single is a first glimpse into Soma, Ahana’s highly anticipated debut album, out October 2025. Described by the 23-year-old UK-based artist as a “12-song pilgrimage to the body,” the album traces a journey back to flesh, form, and feeling — discovering in them a numinosity she once believed they obscured.
Recorded and mixed over three years, primarily in Aveiro, Portugal, Soma is both a reckoning and a recovery — a dismantling of cultural and personal conditioning around corporeality and selfhood, and a relearning of how to feel — sensorially and emotionally. The record blends a stunning course of poetics and organic instrumentation, flickering with notes of freak- and indie-folk, calling to mind the works of Lhasa de Sela, Bedouine, and Alice Phoebe Lou.
Raised in London, with North Indian and Portuguese heritage, Ahana’s work is intrinsically liminal, informed by a confluence of poetic and mystical traditions. For her, music is more than expression — it is metabolic: a way to digest and assimilate life’s many substances, both joyous and painful.
