Today, indie pop singer-songwriter and producer Brye announces her new EP Cycle Breaker Pt. 1 will release on October 10.

The self-produced follow-up to her 2024 EP Growing Through It, Cycle Breaker Pt. 1 finds Brye working through complex emotions, challenges, and trauma with deep vulnerability and honesty.

Along with the announcement, Brye shares her new single “Apples,” a song about growing up in a home with an ever-present unhealthy relationship to food.

“Apples” follows Brye’s two recent companion singles, the upbeat and empowering anthem “Saying No” and the intimate confessional “Body Back.” Taken together, these tracks set the tone for Cycle Breaker Pt. 1, a vulnerable collection of songs about unlearning behaviors and healing in the process.

Brye on her new single: “When writing ‘Apples’ I was really moved by the idea of ‘almond moms,’ a phenomena that got its name from a viral clip of Yolanda Hadid telling her daughter Gigi Hadid to go ‘eat a handful of almonds and chew them really well’ instead of eating a meal. I didn’t just grow up with an almond mom, I also grew up with an almond dad. My childhood relationship to food was characterized by fasts, calorie counting, fad diets, slim fast, juice cleanses, and inedible weight loss meal plans. My parents suffered from a mix of anorexia and orthorexia, which is defined by an obsession with ‘clean food.’ Not only was food sorted into strict categories of ‘good’ and ‘bad,’ but so were bodies. When I was sixteen I sat my parents down and told them they could no longer talk about food around me. It took time, and practice. It’s still not perfect, but my parents have created an environment that no longer fosters food obsession.”

She continues, “I’ve spoken very openly and loudly about my eating disorder recovery. This song chronicles the timeline of my eating disorder. In writing it, I realized that I had been battling it far before I became conscious of it, far before I started to hide it. I still cry when I listen to this song.”

Across Cycle Breaker Pt. 1’s six tracks, Brye pairs introspective, self-aware lyrics with the soft bedroom-pop production, luminous vocals, and sing-alongable melodies that have generated massive popularity on social media. In turn, the raw intensity of her words create the scaffolding around which her songs are built; her music always in service to, and in support of, the emotions conveyed through her writing. A powerful and relatable companion for those who are going through it, those who are working on it, and those who have healed but still have scars, Cycle Breaker Pt. 1 meets you with grace, wherever you are on your journey.
