Catie Turner – Not Young, Just Dumb

Catie Turner by Julian Daniel

Acclaimed folk-pop storyteller Catie Turner returns today with her latest single, “Not Young, Just Dumb” – a sharply introspective release that trades youthful abandon for brutal clarity.

Streaming now, the song hits on that harsh realization: what once felt fun and harmless now comes with consequences you can’t ignore.

Anchored by her unmistakable voice and honesty, Turner weaves through hazy memories of parties, regrets, and disconnection with lyrical precision. “You’re young and dumb / until you’re really not,” she sings, pulling back the curtain on what happens when the excuses fade, but the consequences don’t.

“I wrote ‘Not Young, Just Dumb’ after taking an edible and feeling the dreaded anxiety that I used to tease friends about,” says Turner. “In that moment I realized I have two choices, and I hated both of them: stop and accept the consequences, or continue getting stoned with none of the cute naivety of yesteryear and everyone definitely judging you. Also, this is a song about realizing that 2015 was ten years ago and you have to catch up or you will be trampled by nostalgia for the rest of your life. Tumblr isn’t coming back – but I’ll keep praying it does.”

“Not Young, Just Dumb” follows June’s vulnerable single “I Might” and continues Turner’s 2025 run of releases, which have solidified her reputation as one of music’s most relatable and reflective voices. Fans can catch Turner live this fall on her Catie Turner Stuns on Tour mini-run, including headlining stops in Brooklyn and DC, plus a performance at the Philadelphia Music Festival.
