Kat Velasco – Kitchen Sink

Refreshingly candid, country-pop artist Kat Velasco unveils the music video for her latest anthem, “Kitchen Sink,” a reflective nod to the small-town South Carolina life where gossip runs rampant and being the center of attention is a familiar rite of passage.

Embodying her signature velvety vocal prowess combined with diarylike lyricism, the track serves as Velasco’s exclamation that you should not suppress yourself because of the opinions of others.

Co-written by Melissa Sheridan and Anna Vaus and produced by Andy Sheridan, “Kitchen Sink” delivers a sharp, witty narrative driven by Kat Velasco’s unfiltered honesty about life in a town where everyone knows your business. The track blends a modern country-pop sound with irresistibly catchy, twang-infused undertones. Velasco describes the story behind the song, explaining, “‘Kitchen Sink’ is my new country single, based in a town where rumors travel faster than you can wash it down the drain.” Getting right to the meaning, Velasco then describes the unique attributes to the song: “A loud and upbeat unfiltered anthem about gossip, karma, and the way we all get caught up in the spin.” At the heart of the story, she continues, “Growing up in a small town in South Carolina, I’ve been the talk of the town more than a few times, and I’ve never been the type to water myself down for anyone.” Others’ opinions can be diminishing, but Velasco perseveres, as she emphasizes, “The wild child in me is constantly inspired by this song, so if you’ve ever been the talk of the town (or started it), this one’s definitely for you!” With purpose being at the forefront of the single, the well-balanced instrumentalization can be attributed to Jared Kneale on drums, Matt Utterback on bass, John Shaw on electric guitar, Sheridan on keys, and mixing by Joel Bruyere. “Kitchen Sink” showcases Velasco’s personable energy and vocally bright tone, outlining the day-to-day life of growing up in a small town, but with a modern pop-country edge.
