Flooding – Object 1

Kansas City’s Flooding, the trio fronted by Rose Brown, is excited to share their new EP, object 1, available everywhere now.

Lyrics across today’s release tackle desire, sexuality, carelessness and the push and pull of a passionate relationship with pop confidence. The group goes into untouched territory, where most of their peers don’t dare go, while soundtracked by cacophonous guitars and runs of powerful drums.
“object 1 is full of the most melody-forward, pop-structured songs we’ve ever created,” Brown explains. “It’s fun and kind of ironic to write incredibly dissonant songs within the framework of pop music. Thinking about music like we’re pop stars and considering how it might feel to perform the songs on stage has moved our sound forward in a more energetic, impactful direction that I don’t see done much in the genres we explore.”
object 1 was heralded by “your silence is my favorite song” in May, which explored the fragility of a self-involved male manipulator, with buzzing guitars and haunting vocal delivery from Brown. “Your bleeding heart, my lucky charm,” is casually sung over building but sparse instrumentation as the song head towards a breaking point. “depictions of the female body,” arrived last month, delving into the hope of desire over sirens of feedback and driving drums. Caught in between a state of lust and hopelessness, vocalist Rose Brown sings, “i’m sick and i know it / but it’s hard letting go of it / i tried to forget her.”
Flooding kicked off 2025 with a national tour supporting LA band Cryogeyser. This fall, they’ll open for post-metal band Slow Crush and Texas slowcore band Teethe.
