fanclubwallet – Cotton Mouth

fanclubwallet, the indie-pop songwriting project of Hannah Judge, releases a new single and video, “Cotton Mouth,” out today via Lauren Records.
“Cotton Mouth” is iridescent, sparkling with minimal but driving rhythm guitar and bubbling synths, light and frothy like a glass of champagne. Written during a time when Judge was sick, “Cotton Mouth” reflects on the weight of external pressure – trying to live up to expectations she wasn’t sure she could meet.
The track began with a loose, off-kilter bassline from Judge and a guitar lead from co-writer Michael Watson, who also plays drums and handles production for the band. The end result is a bittersweet juxtaposition of upbeat, almost saccharine instrumentation and vulnerable lyrics unpacking Judge’s perceived shortcomings. “Those were better times,” Judge sings, “But were they better at all?”
