Alison Goldfrapp – Sound & Light

Alison Goldfrapp-by Mat Maitland

Today, pop polymath Alison Goldfrapp shares “Sound & Light,” the third track from her highly anticipated album Flux, out August 15th via her recently launched record label, A.G. Records.

In January 2024, Alison Goldfrapp manifested something she had waited her entire life to witness. “I’d been chasing the Northern Lights for years,” she says. “I’d gone to Finland, Iceland and Norway but never managed to catch them.” Alison put her imagined fantasy of this phenomenon into “Sound & Light” the first song written for new album Flux, where she sings of “a change in the alchemy” and “emerald ribbons” over majestic synth-pop. The track is about “the excitement of an open vista and wanting to embrace a new feeling of emotional freedom” she says. By some miracle and to Alison’s delight the Northern Lights revealed themselves later that evening – a very rare occurrence for Southern Sweden on a warm balmy evening. It was almost like she had summoned them through song.

“Sound & Light” follows the release of lead single “Find Xanadu,” a dazzling synth-pop gem that invites the listener to join Alison on a cosmic odyssey to a sci-fi utopia, and the hallucinogenic and hyper-futuristic “Reverberotic.” Co-produced by Alison, Swedish songwriter Stefan Storm (Sound Of Arrows) with additional strings by acclaimed violinist Davide Rossi, “Sound & Light” continues this exciting chapter for Alison as she embarks on her journey as an independent label owner with A.G. Records.
