Hannah Stow – I Never Changed

Perth pop artist Hannah Stow has released a stirring new single titled ‘I Never Changed’— an expression of grief and frustration at the experience of having a significant other changing up their personality, to the detriment of the relationship. A lament aimed towards this sense of insincerity from the opposing side, ‘I Never Changed’ is a heartbreaking declaration of truth and authenticity;
“This track is about giving someone everything and them being fake and switching up who they are whilst you stay consistent. Being so bound by the bare minimum and lowering your expectations when you date someone. Forgetting your worth and begging them to stay and hear you out. Trying to be what they need when you don’t even believe in yourself enough to stand by what you need.” HANNAH STOW
Written and produced with Benjamin Siva (Khaled, Chris Lanzon, Loretta, SADBOii), the process of creating ‘I Never Changed’ was one of fluid and natural collaboration. Before being mastered by Blake Malone (Amy Shark, Budjerah, Client Liaison, Tia Gostelow Peach Fur), the track came together in a frenzy of sensational teamwork, which saw Hannah and Ben entirely wrapped up in a creative world of their own. Much to the dismay of the local city council – and Hannah’s wallet – they might’ve even had their heads a little too in the game, by the tail end of it…
“I copped a $120 parking fine in Surry Hills because we were so engrossed in the making of this track I didn’t want to leave the studio to update my parking ticket because I was too scared to lose the vibe. Ben’s a gun on guitar and I’d hum a tune and he would just play it no questions asked. I came to him with bare lyrics and not even a melody then once he played guitar everything started to flow.” HANNAH STOW
Once the bones of the track had been laid out with Ben’s help, Hannah drew in the final wisps of magic upon her return home to Perth, consolidating ‘I Never Changed’ as one of her favourite and most personal releases to date;
“I then went back to Perth and recorded this in my home studio and sent it back to him, and to date it’s a song of mine that makes me feel the most. I want confetti cannons to go off at my show when I play this.” HANNAH STOW
