Sea Lemon – Cynical

Under the moniker Sea Lemon, Natalie Lew has cemented her place as an unstoppable force in the Seattle music scene. From Ben Gibbard collaborations to recent tour dates with American Football, she has asserted an ability to merge dreaminess and emotion in timeless ways. This Friday May 30, 2025, Lew will release her full-length debut, Diving For A Prize, via Luminelle Recordings.

The record is shaped by life in the Pacific Northwest, painted in sonic hues of evergreen and oceanic blue. Today, Lew shares the album’s final single, “Cynical,” which premiered on a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy ahead of it’s release.
Carried by a motorik groove and reverberant, interlocking guitar riffs: “Say you’re getting cynical feel like I told you that I’m in a trench / Right on the outskirts while you’re on the edge / How far will you let it go?,” she sings on the chorus. Contrasting its title, “Cynical” seems spun on the same hopeful ether that all of Diving For A Prize is melded from.
On the single, Lew Shares: “A lot of this record feels like a step in a new but related sonic direction for me. ‘Cynical’ is the song that feels the most connected to some of my former music, like the song Vaporized, and is about the feeling of being all the way in on a relationship while sensing someone is on their way out.”
