Sooyeon – More Than A Friend

Following the hypnotic low-end haze of her March single ‘in the club, we are all disassociating’, genre-surfing producer and DJ sooyeon delivers another high-impact club weapon with ‘more than a friend’, out now via Cross Country Records.
A trippy, pacey techno roller packed with cheeky attitude, ‘more than a friend’ is a flirtatious floor-filler driven by crunchy, kick-heavy drums, wobbly low-end pressure, and a looping vocal refrain that lingers long after the drop. It’s soaked in sooyeon’s signature sass, designed to blur the line between intimacy and intensity in the rave.
On the track, sooyeon shares “This is the fastest and hardest track I’ve released so far, and dare I say… my favourite. There is so much tension that builds throughout the pounding techno kick, which leads to the most satisfying, overspilling bass. This peak-time track is perfect for ringing in festival season!”
The single follows a string of standout moments in 2025 for the artist formerly known as Oh Annie Oh, including an NTS Radio guest mix and her co-production credits on Jax Jones and Rebecca Black’s club-pop smash ‘Bad Boys’, which set dancefloors and charts alight earlier this year.
An artist rooted in the energy of the club, sooyeon continues to blend UK techno, bass, and experimental textures with emotional tension and raw physicality. ‘more than a friend’ is another leftfield banger that confirms her flair for crafting tracks that speak to the body as much as the feels.
