Melissa Carper – Borned In Ya
Melissa Carper announces her new album Borned In Ya out July 19 via Mae Music/Thirty Tigers with the lead single and video “Lucky Five.”
“Lucky Five” is a lighthearted track about past relationships. “I have much personal experience to draw from in writing a song that speaks of learning from past relationships, growing as a human, and being able to know how to love better as you grow,” Melissa says. “I believe that any difficult experience that presents itself is just an opportunity to learn and face something in ourselves that needs to be confronted, in order to learn.” The video, set in the Austin Roller Rink, was filmed and directed by Brian Schwarz of Painted House Productions. Melissa says she can’t roller skate, but after seeing how much fun the featured rollers in the video were having, she’s definitely added learning how to her bucket list!
A while back, Melissa heard an interview with the late, great Ralph Stanley about the sound of old-time mountain music – he said “I don’t think you can get this sound unless it’s borned in ya.” When Melissa heard that, something inside of her jumped. She wrote it down, wrote a song about it, and then made it the title track of her new album. Her previous two releases, Daddy’s Country Gold and Ramblin’ Soul were highly acclaimed, and Borned In Ya, brimming with her signature blend of jazz, vintage R&B, and old-school country, is set to take the world by storm.
