Mary Bue – Trying To Fight The Wind
Singer/songwriter, yogi and international retreat guide Mary Bue has released “Trying To Fight The Wind,” about invisible pressure, drawing inspiration from the brutal winters of Minnesota.
“Wind fascinates me – a power that we can’t see. An invisible force that blows down trees, buildings, and create massive damage, created by pressure,” she reflects. “This song speaks to systemic pressure, and the ‘heard it on the wind’ quality of gossip, misapprehension, and lies that can run our societal show, especially in these ‘unprecedented times.’ It speaks to the idiom of ‘spitting in the wind’- the feeling of trying so hard to create something, to prove something, to speak truth to power – and the feeling that it’s going nowhere – the spit flies right back at your face.”
It is the third track from the forthcoming album The Wildness of Living and Dying, out February 7. 2025. a collection of songs that contemplate issues of trauma, uncertainty, compassion, and healing with music. They were composed in the years surrounding a traumatic carjacking experience in late 2020 and express strength in vulnerability, resilience of the human spirit, the growth experienced within a cycle of destruction, and, ultimately, transformation.
Later this month, Mary Bue joins Cloud Cult on a handful of dates in the South/Southeast. She celebrates the album with a hometown show at The Parkway Theater in Minneapolis on Saturday, February, 16 and will follow with a performance in Duluth in March.
