Thee Soreheads, Montréal’s four-piece garage outfit taking the punk scene by storm, are set to release a new single and music video for “My Body My Choice” Nov 5 on Outhouse Records.

After a breakout year which included the release of their debut EP I’m Not Your Fucking Sex Doll; Public Prize at Cabaret Festif; highly-anticipated festival slots at Pop Montreal, Sled Island, and FME; a sold out Radio Canada show; and GAMIQ nominations for best Punk EP and Breakout artist of the year; Thee Soreheads are ready to introduce a new era to their audiences with “My Body My Choice.”

“When we first started the project, I immediately knew that I wanted to write about my experience as a woman, but as the state of world has evolved, our music has also become a reflection of the society we live in, ” singer and lyricist Maria says. “The world is very divided and tumultuous at the moment, and the feminist collective rage that I’ve been feeling through our live shows and online is why I wrote this song in the first place. It’s unfortunate that the more we play it, the more relevant it seems to become.”

With a music video, directed by Raph Cohen-Demers, also set to be released alongside the single, Thee Soreheads want to make sure their message of consent and feminism comes across loud and clear both visually and sonically. The video showcases Maria as a news reporter, and the only woman in male-dominated spaces from gyms, to skateparks, and frat parties to construction sites. Men start to encroach in her space as perpetrators or bystanders until she breaks through with anger and is able to use her voice. “I wanted it to be clear that I was the only woman present in each shot, and also present a lot of the issues we feel as women throughout these spaces, specifically concerning consent and the bystander effect.”
