Sad Cypress – Three Wishes

Sad Cypress returns with her dramatic new single ‘Three Wishes’, the soundtrack to All Hallows’ Eve.

‘Three Wishes’ is ushered in with a plucked acoustic motif swirling in dark waters, framed by an intriguing and detailed atmosphere; Sad Cypress delivers a haunting vocal in keeping with All Hallows’ Eve. With echoes of later-period Kate Bush or the vaudeville melodrama of Shakespeares Sister, ‘Three Wishes’ is sewn with dark folk hews and almost classical arpeggios and a vocal that shivers and is dipped in a mysterious sound of what lies beneath the surface as it draws the vivid outline of questions and leaves you with some of your own. Sad Cypress says: “Three Wishes is a hall of mirrors – what do we want and why do we want it? I can see lots of different interpretations and I’m sure I’ll discover more.”

It follows the release of ‘The Other Side’ that Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales hailed as “mysterious and beautiful” and WeAllWantSomeone blog praised it for its  “raw nature and bare bones quality of the track hits with precision and a delicacy that shine through with authenticity, channelling artists such as Laura Marling, Bedouine, and early 2000s indie folk artists “

Based in Cardiff, Sad Cypress has played shows across South Wales and South West England, with performance highlights including headlining Folk At The Moon at The Moon in Cardiff, a set at Devauden Festival and a successful Oxfam fundraiser at The Mount Without in Bristol, and recently a one-woman show at Porters in Cardiff, where she unveiled a new alter ego, consistently gaining audiences along the way. Building on the success of her debut album Magic Mountain, re-released on Bandcamp in 2023, Sad Cypress would like to invite you into her blossoming artist world.
