Excuse For An Exit – Glitter & Grief

Melbourne alt-rock four-piece Excuse For An Exit have announced their debut EP, Glitter & Grief will be out Friday 11 December.

Leading the announcement is their infectious new single “Black Cat Superstar”, out everywhere today.
Produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Lalic (Windwaker, Headwreck, RinRin), Glitter & Grief sees Excuse For An Exit build upon their emo/rock foundations, doubling down on some of their heaviest material yet while also experimenting with electronic flourishes, sugary pop and disco-rock hooks. The EP traces the push and pull of life’s highs and lows, from wild nights out to heartbreak, ended friendships, and new, unexpected beginnings. “The idea of Glitter & Grief grew from the healing process itself,” says vocalist Edelle. “Like glitter, grief never quite disappears. It fades, but little remnants are always there. Some days you notice them more than others. Still, even in its persistence, there’s something beautiful about it, and eventually, you learn to live with it, and even wear it.”
“The songs embody this vast array of emotions, from soaring highs to searing lows. Creating this EP over several months reminded us of the ever-changing nature of life, and how you can never quite predict what’s to come. So don’t write yourself off just yet.”
Track three of six and latest single, “Black Cat Superstar”, is an infectious dose of big love appreciation, celebrating the people in your life who deserve to be reminded of just how incredible they are. The band says: “Black Cat Superstar encapsulates that feeling you get when watching your friend absolutely killing it. After a song like ‘hate me like I do’, Edelle wanted to remind Elise that she really is all that. The song is an appreciation for all the hard-working, risk-taking, trail-blazing black cats out there. We see you xx”.
Excuse for an Exit have fostered an inclusive and alternative community within their local scene since their beginning in 2020. The unwavering support of their dedicated fanbase, as featured in the music video for “ur villain”, remains steadfast as they embark on a transformative sonic journey. Seamlessly blending electronic elements with their signature emo-rock repertoire, the four-piece continue to push boundaries and embrace their evolution.
The quartet have steadily built a name for themselves through a string of impressive achievements across the past few years. They performed at the inaugural Siren Sounds, an all femme-fronted and LGBTQI+ mini-festival raising funds for The Red Heart Campaign, and took the reins on their own Lifeline fundraiser, managing, running, and performing two shows that raised $1500 for charity.
They’ve cemented themselves as a rising force in Australia’s alternative scene, headlining sold-out BONEZ events in both 2023 and 2024, headlining and selling out hometown shows across Victoria, and supporting artists to the likes of daine, RinRin, Bloom, The Beautiful Monument, Belle Haven and more.
