LELIA – Satisfy Me

Lelia is a 23-year-old East London-based British artist and one of the most exciting voices emerging from the capital’s underground. Fusing post-disco sensuality with electro-clash bite, her sound is built on thick synth bass, jagged percussion and bold confrontational lyrics. Erotic and darkly playful, her songs move between desire and destruction. Touchstones include Lady Gaga, LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey and Peaches.
‘Satisfy Me’ is the fourth single to be taken from Lelia’s debut album Dark Disco which follows on 6 November via her own label Peace Dragon Records and is the album’s most disco-forward track with a touch of 70s funk.
Lelia says of the ‘Satisfy Me’:
“I wanted this feeling of cool that you have when you have a new lover, and you’re walking down the street, and it’s almost like you have a secret in the way you move. It’s about intimacy and abandoning inhibition and ultimately optimism. It’s almost archaic in how dramatic it is, and I chose this because when you do have a new lover, you’re so infatuated and life becomes dramatic. It also lays out this is how I desire, this is my sex, and it’s an honest confession of that.”
The music video for ‘Satisfy Me’ takes influence from the high camp 70s exploitation films and 80s slasher feminist Giallo horror films and sees Lelia again team up with emerging independent filmmaker Imi Laurence to create a glamorously kitsch and destructive statement of freedom.
Lelia on ‘Satisfy Me’ video:
“We wanted to explore what liberation looks and feels like. It being a state that shouldn’t be dependent on anyone else. We created this visual world where a woman is just completely feral and yet completely free, and the man is used almost a prop and subvert the usual gender roles you see when exploring themes of sexuality. By juxtaposing autonomous symbols of violence such as the gun or fire so closely to the sexual world, we hope to get somewhere closer to the truth of what free sexuality feels like.”
Lelia is a British artist with Latin American and Italian roots. She has performed extensively across London for JOY Concerts and Club.The.Mammoth and released three singles in the last year: ‘Hair’ (Loud Women’s ‘Single of the Week’), ‘Sunglasses’ and ‘Smash Hit’ collectively amassing over 80k streams across digital streaming platforms and social media.
