Infinite Coles – PUMP

Rising rapper and vocalist Infinite Coles has stormed back onto the scene with a new single and music video “PUMP.”

The first single since the release of his critically-acclaimed debut album SweetFace Killah, “PUMP” is a victory lap, with Infinite proclaiming “got respect from the OGs… worked it to the ground, be the one, not the number two.” Written by Infinite and produced by his longtime creative collaborator Zach Witness (Doechii, Frank Ocean, Erykah Badu), “PUMP” is an ode to the ballroom scene that has welcomed the young rapper and singer since Infinite first began making music over a decade ago, while referencing Kriss Kross’ classic earworm “Jump.”

Also out today, the music video for “PUMP” is a visual feast directed by Loys Assal (Doechii, DJ Snake) and Robot MoonJuice (Princess Nokia, skuzland). Filmed as an homage to feminine expression and the legacies of ballroom culture and hip hop, Infinite takes over the streets of Paris, flanked by stars of the internationally famed House of Juicy Couture. Together with his house, Infinite reclaims images of luxury, glamor and aspiration. The music video is ultimately a love letter to the resilience, creativity and chosen family structures that define ballroom culture with references to Paris Is Burning and the American-born French icon Josephine Baker.

“‘PUMP’ is very energetic and fun,” says Infinite. “It’s basically me feeling all of my oats and then throwing it in your face lol. It’s saying don’t compete where you don’t compare. It’s for the ones who know they’re the shit and won’t let anyone stop them.”

Since releasing SweetFace Killah last year, which expertly melds “house, dance, R&B, and hip-hop influences in myriad fashion” (Paste), Infinite, who is the son of Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah, has rocketed to viral fame and amassed a global audience, performing at festivals in Amsterdam, Montreal, his home of New York City and more. His message of self-love and fearless creativity as a queer African American growing up among a rap dynasty endures, as Infinite turns the page with confidence on “PUMP.”
