Humbird – Hey Big Dipper
Midwest indie folk artist Humbird shares her latest single, “Hey Big Dipper,” from her upcoming full-length album Morning When It Comes, out September 25.
She also recently announced headline midwest dates this fall, including a hometown show in Minneapolis, MN at The Fine Line on November 13.
Written by Siri Undlin (Humbird) while navigating a wave of mental and physical illness, Morning When It Comes is a collection of twelve “secular hymns” that draw inspiration from the cosmos to find comfort here on Earth. With glittering hooks, big-hearted grooves, and clear-voiced melodies, what began as a deeply personal, self-soothing songwriting process in isolation transformed into a grand, universal conversation about stability, surrender, and the power of community.
The album delves into the metamorphosis that is possible when the personal is placed beside the universal, as heard in the latest single “Hey Big Dipper,” a gentle and comforting lullaby sung directly to the constellation Ursa Major in a moment of feeling stuck.
Recorded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Morning When It Comes marks Undlin’s debut as a co-producer alongside longtime producer Shane Leonard. Multi-instrumentalist Pat Keen performs across the entire record, which also features guest contributions from renowned pedal steel player Rich Hinman (Sara Bareilles, Rosanne Cash), pianist Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter, Lake Street Dive), and vocalists Sarah Elstran, Sarah Krueger, and Sarah Magill. Together, the ensemble builds a sound that is lush, electrified, and unmistakably Midwest Americana.
The past two years have marked a prolific stretch for the Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter. She released her critically acclaimed album Right On in 2024, followed by 2025’s Astrovan: The Love Song Vignettes. During that time, Humbird toured extensively — headlining clubs across the U.S. and supporting Indigo De Souza, Watchhouse, Brent Cobb, and Lady Lamb — in addition to appearances at AMERICANAFEST, Folk Alliance, Pickathon, Treefort Music Festival, MerleFest, Celtic Connections, and NPR’s Mountain Stage.
