NOIA – As Per My Last Email

NOIA by Mara Corsino2

NOIA (Gisela Fullà-Silvestre) is back with her first release since her critically acclaimed debut album, gisela. Born in Barcelona and now living in Brooklyn, NOIA has spent the past stretch through one of the hardest periods of her life: losing her father, watching the world spin into chaos, just trying to create while surviving New York City. “As Per My Last Email” captures that feeling at its rawest. Nothing exposes the absurdity of always being “on” quite like pregnancy, a reminder that some things can’t be answered at midnight or scheduled around. The video for “As Per My Last Email” was shot at the height of NOIA’s pregnancy.

On the track, NOIA shares: “It’s what happens when ‘just circling back’ becomes a way of life. A song about the slow collapse of hyperfunctionality, that state of being permanently ‘on,’ answering messages at midnight, running on notifications instead of sleep, until you’re less a person than a broken, over-wired robot still sending polite replies.”

Video director Varya Rootwood shares: “We shot this video in the Bronx Riviera in the midst of August last year, with a small team of amazing and generous artists. The video brings office core into natural landscapes, exploring the dissolved boundary between work and life in late-stage capitalism. Set across two surreal ‘office’ locations – a forest and an ocean beach – we follow Gisela as she sings, ‘working’ in a neverending attempt to keep up. Through the video, she is stuck in uncomfortable positions, moving in a glitched, strained rhythm until finally she becomes part of the machine herself. Part painterly, part eerie, the video reflects on what it costs us to be always on: a freedom that might not be freedom at all.”

NOIA (Gisela Fullà-Silvestre) returns with “As Per My Last Email,” her first new music since her critically acclaimed 2023 debut album, gisela. Since then, NOIA’s music has been shaped by the intense aftermath of losing her father, a world that keeps fracturing around her, and a cultural and professional landscape that never stopped demanding she stay “on.”

“As Per My Last Email” opens with the emotional shorthand of modern burnout turned back on itself: “as per my last email, I haven’t been able to focus,” repeated until the corporate deflection starts to sound like an actual admission. By the time the song arrives at its second refrain, “I’m available all night, all day, every day,” NOIA’s language has twisted into something closer to a confession than an out-of-office reply, less professional courtesy than a person who has forgotten how to stop being reachable.

The single is a fitting return for an artist who has always built her music out of contradiction and duality. NOIA adopted the alias specifically to separate her personal songwriting from her parallel career as a film and TV composer and sound designer. It’s a song that echoes the same restless push and pull that has always run through her music, from the deliberately blurred gender performances of her gisela videos to her years spent negotiating two countries, two languages, and multiple selves.

Beyond NOIA, Gisela Fullà-Silvestre is a Barcelona-born, New York–based composer, sound designer, re-recording mixer, and vocalist whose work spans award-winning film, television, and music. Trained in psychology before a Berklee exchange film composition program brought her to Boston and later New York, her credits include the Academy Award–nominated documentary Ascension, the Emmy-winning New York Times Op-Doc ¡Atención! Murderer Next Door, and films that have premiered at Sundance, Tribeca, Berlinale, and SXSW. In 2022, she received the NYFA Women’s Fund Fellowship.

As NOIA, she sings across Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese, and English within a single project, blending Mediterranean folkloric tradition with glitch-inflected electronic pop. Her 2023 debut, gisela, earned acclaim from Pitchfork and The New York Times and features Ela Minus, Buscabulla, and Maria Arnal. She’s since performed at festivals including Primavera Sound, Pitchfork Music Festival, Corona Capital, and SXSW, and toured alongside artists like My Brightest Diamond, Empress Of, and Buscabulla.
