WILLOW – The Thread
WILLOW releases her anticipated new album, The Thread, today and shares a live performance video for the album’s title track “The Thread.”
WILLOW is celebrating the album’s release this week in New York City. Tonight, she will be bringing her live show to the Apple Store in Williamsburg, NY at 6pm and tomorrow she’ll host an in-store at Vinyl + Thread in Dumbo, Brooklyn starting at 5:30pm. On Wednesday night WILLOW held an album listening event at Brooklyn’s Public Records, hosted by Free People, which also featured a live Q&A moderated by Rolling Stone’s Larisha Paul, and boasted an impressive list of attendees including Questlove, Tierra Whack, Mei Semones, Kelsey Lu, Emma Emhoff, and more.
Earlier this month WILLOW appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing the album’s lead single “Talk On The Hill,” which she also discussed on a couch interview with guest host Ike Barinholtz.
On The Thread WILLOW delivers what she describes as a “devotional” album — a deeply immersive body of work examining the divine feminine, spiritual evolution, and humanity’s connection to higher consciousness. Long celebrated as a fearless sonic shapeshifter, WILLOW sounds more self-assured than ever here, grounding her experimental instincts within a rich palette of progressive R&B, alternative jazz, meditative soundscapes, and atmospheric soul. The Thread is a musical offering imbued with feminine softness – an intoxicating blend of pop melodies, supported by syncopated rhythms, creating a listening experience that feels both intimate and ceremonial in its pursuit of an open heart.
Reuniting with producer Chris Greatti, the album showcases not only the adventurous musicality that defined projects like empathogen, but an even sharper sense of clarity and restraint in her songwriting. Her mastery as a guitarist and composer remains unmistakable throughout, yet The Thread also reveals a new precision in her approach to melody and structure — distilling complex emotional and philosophical ideas into songs that feel immediate, intimate, and resonant.
