Computerwife – Nobody

Computerwife2

Addie Warncke’s music as Computerwife has always lived between digital life and tangible reality. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Warncke started making music as a teenager after hearing Grimes break down the making of “Kill v. Maim” on Song Exploder and downloading a free trial of Ableton to follow her process. In 2018, she moved to New York to study at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, uploading her first songs as Computerwife to SoundCloud during her freshman year and later gathering five favourites for the Computerwife EP at the start of COVID lockdowns.

Over the next few years, Warncke continued writing and recording, though she deleted her entire stock of demos in a moment of personal crisis. When she signed with Los Angeles independent label Danger Collective, she had to dig through emails, folders, and digital ephemera to see what could be recovered. A Google Drive of songs she had sent to an ex-boyfriend became Computerwife, released in 2023, an album of fuzzy shoegaze, slacker rock, late-’90s haze, and big feelings played into a little microphone.

Today, ahead of a run of tour dates supporting Feeble Little Horse, Warncke is sharing her first new single in three years, a track called “Nobody.”

“Nobody” feels like that private, screen-lit world becoming physical. Written soon after Computerwife’s release, the song took shape as Warncke tried to channel records she had on repeat: Sonic Youth’s Sonic Nurse, Autolux’s Future Perfect, Dear Nora’s Mountain Rock, and Spraydog’s Lines Are Drawn Only by the Eye. Fittingly, it sounds like an escape: a love song lit by casinos, desert roads, hotel rooms, and the temporary freedom of doing nothing with someone else.

Warncke says of the song:

“Nobody” is about being in love in Las Vegas, taking pictures of my boyfriend in hotels, driving through the desert, and staying up all night high on the sidewalk, doing a lot of nothing. It’s about the power of sharing the world with someone else even though no relationship is ever perfect.
