Tierra Whack – Totem

Tierra Whack by Phobymo

GRAMMY-nominated recording artist and auteur Tierra Whack ramps up the anticipation for her new mixtape WHACK’S MUSEUM with a brazen new preview track “TOTEM.” Over a sparse beat that allows her commanding lyricism and self-assuredness to shine, Tierra thrashes her critics – rappers and otherwise – and reaffirms her rightful place among hip-hop’s most essential emcees, all in under two minutes. “TOTEM” earned immediate approval with a premiere on Apple Music’s New Music Daily.

WHACK’S MUSEUM,

“TOTEM” arrives just days ahead of Tierra’s long-awaited next full project, WHACK’S MUSEUM, out June 19 (Juneteenth). The mixtape is her first major work since her critically acclaimed 2024 debut WORLD WIDE WHACK – which landed on Album of the Year lists for TIME, Rolling Stone, and The Washington Post – and marks a definitive return as a pure showcase of her signature lyrical dexterity, sharp wit, and rhythmic precision.

With momentum building, Tierra revealed the 12-song tracklist for WHACK’S MUSEUM earlier this week. Feeding the frenzy, Tierra has been actively calling out detractors on social media and even shared a direct phone number (323-747-7544) for them to text their formal apologies, because, as she wrote on social media, “I never stopped believing in myself when you stopped believing in me.”

WHACK’S MUSEUM also contains the hypnotic “WAX PAPER.”

On the single, Tierra combines her stinging, relentless precision and clever wordplay, taking aim at naysayers and critics while owning her power over a haunting beat with a nostalgic 90s flavor. Its official music video, directed by Child and shot in Tierra’s native Philadelphia, restructures her hometown through a black-and-white lens and creates a captivating cinematic world that mirrors Tierra’s unmatched storytelling and delivery.

Tierra’s return to music complements recent career-building moments across industries. She delivered a rousing presentation at Amazon’s Upfront series last month – joining luminaries including Oprah Winfrey – to explain the power of Twitch’s social reach. In the acting world, she made her voice-acting debut in the Invincible VS fighting game, a companion to the massive Amazon Prime hit show. Last year, she appeared as Adrienne in the Marlon Wayans-led film HIM.
