mary in the junkyard – Mouse

mary in the junkyard — Clari Freeman-Taylor (vocals, guitar, cello, viola, violin), Saya Barbaglia (bass, viola, violin, backing vocals) and David Addison (drums) — release the new single, “Mouse,” from their debut album, Role Model Hermit, out July 3rd via AMF Records.
Following last month’s “New Muscles,” which was rapturously received by the likes of Stereogum, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, The Needle Drop, FADER and more, “Mouse” is the album’s affecting closing track.

A key moment on Role Model Hermit, “Mouse” fuses the band’s fantastical story telling with hard hitting themes of reconnecting with a person you abandoned in a former life. “I went to Iceland and became obsessed with the ocean. I remembered I was a fisherman in a former life with a mouse in my pocket, lost in a storm. It is about me reconnecting with the mouse when they have taken on a human form in this life.” The sense of emotion is palpable with the band creating a track that swells like tempestuous waves.
Role Model Hermit is a collection of dark fables, intricate melodies and moments of revelation. mary in the junkyard wrote the album between the UK and US and recorded it in London during the summer of 2025 with producer Oli Bayston (Boxed In). Throughout its runtime, the album walks the line between fact and fiction with a real sense of bite and moments of poignancy, while always creeping into the phantasmagoric.
Last month, mary in the junkyard played a run of co-headline dates with Dove Ellis at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles and the Bowery Ballroom in New York City. They will play several in-store performances in the US and UK around the album release, and tour North America this fall, making stops in cities they have yet to headline.
