Karen Nyame KG – Epiphany

Karen Nyame KG by Condry Calvin Mlilo

British-Ghanaian producer, songwriter, DJ and broadcaster Karen Nyame KG returns today with Epiphany, a rich and emotionally expansive new EP landing via acclaimed Bristol label Black Acre, home to artists including Commodo, SCALER, Kwes Darko and Alfa Mist.

Epiphany

A foundational figure in the first wave of UK Funky, and one of the few Black women producers shaping that sound at its peak, Karen Nyame KG remains rooted in the percussive swing and diasporic rhythm that defined her early output. Epiphany captures that DNA fully matured: assured, sensual, and rhythm-driven, weaving together UK Funky roots, ancestral rhythm, and deep Afro-electronic sound, built for heated dancefloors and sun-drenched festival stages.

Following the recent double single “In My Room / Allure”, supported by BBC 1Xtra, 6 Music, CLASH, TRENCH, DJ Mag and more, the five-track EP further expands Karen’s sonic palette, full of punchy club grooves, hypnotic percussion, soulful vocals, and moments of introspection.

Title track “Epiphany” offers a deeper, more introspective moment, weaving enigmatic percussion and piano-led emotion through Afro-influenced electronic textures whilst remaining firmly dancefloor-ready.

Karen shares: “I’ve had quite a journey with this track. The production process started after I saw Black Coffee perform in Melbourne in 2024. I dreamt about the piano progressions and started working on it in Sydney. This project has taken two years to develop across Australia and Japan. I love deep, ancestral South African Afro House and Afro Tech, and felt driven to create something along those lines infused with my own essence. The groove is punchy, and my call-and-response vocals make it spiritual. This is another dancefloor weapon; it’s provocative.”

The EP also lands with previously unheard cuts “Stay” and “Shuda Crz”, pushing Karen’s sound into warmer, more sensual territory. On “Stay”, Karen leans into a melodic, Balearic-leaning sound, merging Ibiza-inspired house textures with R&B roots and guitar licks from emerging guitarist and producer Obe380. “Produced by me, with vocals by me and written alongside my long-time collaborator David Asante. This is a bona fide soundtrack for summer sunsets.”

Meanwhile, “Shuda Crz” arrives as the EP’s downtempo curveball, produced by Ragz Originale, blending futuristic alt-R&B textures with hazy late-night sensuality. Karen explains: “Burn the midnight oil with this track – futuristic alt-R&B in its own sonic realm. It’s a mood. I’m really swinging my chops as a vocalist and songwriter here. A sensual deep cut for the lovers and yearners. Full moon music.”

Across the EP, Karen stretches into uncharted sonic and visual territory. As a multi-hyphenate producer, singer and songwriter, Karen steps firmly into what she calls her “dominion” chapter, no longer waiting for validation, but claiming space with clarity and authority.

Championed by tastemakers i-D, Crack, Resident Advisor, The Face, Mixmag, DJ Mag and more, Karen Nyame KG continues to operate at the intersection of UK club music and the sounds of the African diaspora, pushing her signature rhythmic language into deeper, more expansive terrain.

Having built a career twice, first as a defining architect of UK Funky’s original wave, later returning to global recognition through the revival of her early catalogue, followed by sexy summer smash “Koko” on Sensei II and the launch of her label and platform, Rhythm in the City, Karen Nyame KG continues to move with intention. Epiphany isn’t nostalgia, it’s evolution.

Arriving via Black Acre – the proudly independent UK label founded in 2007 and fresh from celebrating its 100th release – Epiphany continues the imprint’s legacy of championing boundary-pushing UK and diasporic sound.
