Dolly Doops – What’s It To You?

Rising London-based queer femme artist Dolly Doops shares her latest single ‘What’s It To You?’ via APOLLO Distribution, a direct yet melodic pop track shaped by frustration at recent political changes affecting women’s rights.
Speaking on the making of the song, Dolly Doops shares: “I feel things so deeply but I don’t always know what to do with those feelings or how I can make any sort of difference. The thing I feel most connected to is music and using my voice to channel these worries, but also with a beat that I can move to and feel it! When Seegz and I wrote this we wanted to have some fun with still, you know poke fun at the broken system whilst still exploring an important subject.”
‘You made up rules to control me, what makes you think that you own me?’ she sings – a lyric that cuts straight to the point without needing embellishment.
Musically, ‘What’s It to You?’ pulls back compared to her more recent releases like ‘I Need A Doctor’. It sits in a more minimal, retro-leaning pop space, with clear influence from artists like Prince in the rhythm and guitar work. The production stays light but purposeful, with punchy drums, clean electric guitar lines, and a focus on letting the vocal sit front and centre, allowing her message to be heard.
Following a steady run of releases, ‘What’s It to You?’ continues to build on her evolving catalogue, rooted in pop, but shaped by personal, social and political experience.
