Babehoven – Blue Around You
Babehoven, the Hudson, NY-based project of singer/songwriter Maya Bon and producer and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Albert, have shared a new single titled “Blue Around You” ahead of their upcoming tour with Ray Bull, which kicks off tomorrow in Cambridge, MA and wraps on June 13th in New York City at Bowery Ballroom.
“Standing on a bridge seeing apartments illuminated around you, being understood by a friend who knows your story, witnessing someone pull their life together like tenderly tying a shoelace; these are all moments where we find each other in the soup of it all and choose to really see one another and stay. I see the blue around you as if we carry the hard times we go through around and within us like a glow,” the band says of the country-flecked stomper.
Recorded at The Chicken Shack and 12 Lb Genius in Upstate NY, Maya and Ryan gathered an excellent crew of musicians with producer Phil Weinrobe at the helm — Oliver Hill, Zosha Warpeha, Dylan Nowik, Jared Samuel, Ellington Peet, and Nick Kinsey. The core of the song was recorded live with no playback or headphones with the feel of the room being as much an instrument as the hardanger fiddle and harmonies that soar overhead.
Since 2017, Babehoven has carved out a sound that blends melodic indie and folk rock with an occasional nod towards country. Bon serves as the project’s principal songwriter and lyricist, while Albert, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, further shapes the sonic world around her songs. Together, they’ve built a body of work that feels both intimate and expansive.
