Tenille Townes – The Acrobat

Today, acclaimed singer-songwriter Tenille Townes released her highly anticipated new album The Acrobat.

Townes is taking a bold step out on her own with her third album, The Acrobat, marking a clear shift toward a more intimate, singer-songwriter, folk-leaning sound, one that strips everything back to lyric, melody and emotional truth.
Written during a period of profound personal and professional transition, the record finds her standing at a crossroads between who she has been and who she is becoming. Relationship endings, career shifts, and the overwhelming noise of the world around her pushed Townes to begin peeling back long-held patterns of people-pleasing and self-sacrifice. What emerged is this beautifully crafted body of work rooted in honesty, courage, and the quiet tenacity it takes to keep moving forward when certainty falls away. The record’s sparse production places an emphasis on Townes’ incomparable storytelling ability and powerhouse vocals, creating a resonance that leaves the listener feeling like they’re in the room with the artist.
Focus track and album opener “ordinary song love,” sets the tone for this new chapter of vulnerability, reflection and going back to the basics, starting with the line, “I’ve been waking up from a long daydream.”
Of the track, Tenille Townes shared, “These words are true to how I felt creating this album: I’ve been waking up from a long daydream. A dream that started when I was a kid writing songs in my room after school. The thing is the dream happened… I drove my Tacoma 47 hours from my hometown to move to Nashville. I opened on tour for my heroes and worked my way up to selling out my own headlining shows. I made albums I’m proud of. I signed the record deal. But so much was different in reality than what I thought living out that dream would feel like… and still I wouldn’t change one second of it.
All of my experiences and struggles with losing myself in the past few years, have led me to this place of shaping my intuition stronger. It’s what led me to create this sparse record, stepping away from the noise of the world and my people-pleasing tendencies to get back to my truth underneath. And what I feel now is this renewed sense of my love for music. And community. And my belief in what happens when we all come together on a common ground.”
She continues, “I don’t believe life is ordinary. We are not machines. We are messy and beautiful humans here for only a short ride, making it up as we go along. There is nothing ordinary to me about that. I feel more aware of the preciousness of time and the way change is constantly teaching me how to let go than I ever have in my life. That’s what this song sounds like to me. Surrender. Waking up to the fact that I get to experience what love and loss and everything in between feels like.”
The Acrobat includes a feature with recent Grammy winners I’m With Her (Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan) on “grey like Emmylou” and other tracks written with Grammy winning writers Lori McKenna, Amy Wadge and Daniel Tashian. The collection also includes several songs penned solely by Townes. The record as a whole is completely recorded, produced and mixed by Townes’, who also played every instrument on the record.
Commitment to emotional honesty has defined Townes’ career from the beginning. The Canada-born, Nashville-based artist has earned two JUNO Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, and 17 Canadian Country Music Association Awards, while touring alongside artists such as Stevie Nicks, Miranda Lambert, Shania Twain, Keith Urban, Reba, Zac Brown Band, George Strait, and Dierks Bentley. Across every chapter, she has built a devoted global audience drawn to her empathy, lyrical precision, and willingness to sit with difficult truths.
The most recently released single, “we could use a little more” has connected with fans as an impactful anthem that speaks to the polarizing society we live in and the need to have compassion for others. Townes is backing up this message by supporting organizations serving unhoused youth and is donating proceeds from the song to different youth shelters.
