Today, LA via Boston soulful/R&B singer-songwriter Becca Hannah shares her soft, silky debut album Tonight In My Dreams out now.

Alongside the album, Hannah shares “Miriam,” a touching, personal ode to her impactful childhood therapist.

Tracked with a live band, the record ponders connection, love and loss through glossy vocals, heartfelt lyricism and swirling, enchanting instrumentation.

Born from real life experiences, the smooth ten track project touches on lust, love, growth, fear, loss, and longing with soulful vocals and layers of jazz and R&B as Hannah pulls from female powerhouses like Amy Winehouse, Corrine Bailey Rae and Erykah Badu. Hannah hopes the music connects to listeners in whichever ways they find meaningful. Creating her own sense of community through music, Hannah says, “We all love, we all suffer, and how beautiful is it that we can relate to each other through songs that highlight all of the above? It brings a sense of community and acknowledgement of our humanness. It makes the ebbs of life more manageable, and the flows all the more blissful.”

The album was tracked live with a 9-piece ensemble, and recorded and mixed by seven time GRAMMY-winner Jim Scott at his own Plyrz Studio in Valencia, CA. Scott’s work with Tedeschi Trucks Band, Tom Petty, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and countless others drew Becca and longtime collaborator Tristan Jantz to work with him. A visit to his secret studio, filled with magical vintage gear and creative energy sealed the deal–this album could only be made at Plyrz with Scott.

The latest single out today, written years ago during a bout of anxiety, recalls Miriam, Hannah’s childhood therapist who heavily impacted the way she sees herself and understands the world around her. Hannah shares, “Miriam” is a meditative diary and a vessel that can connect us to loved ones who have left the physical realm.”

Expanding on the comfort the therapist gave her, Hannah adds, “I thought, ‘what would Miriam tell me right now?’ I essentially wrote a letter to her through my lyrics and the melody immediately emerged. I couldn’t come up with a chorus that truly resonated for another two years, but then it all fell into place. Tristan helped me spice up some of the chords, and we had a masterpiece. Through writing and singing this song, I’ve channeled Miriam’s essence and the insights she’s provided me with that I will carry with me throughout this life and beyond.”

Last month, Hannah shared “Thick & Thin,” a collaboration with vocalist Ari Lachenauer, muses on partnership and love feeling easy.

Hannah shares the song developed after a discussion of choosing your partner even in the midst of growing pains and uncertainties.

Hannah says, “While jamming on my porch, Tristan showed me a new song seed with a soulful, mo-town inspired guitar lick. It sounded like a cozy yet invigorating Sunday morning. We were having this discussion about the nuances of relationships after the honeymoon phase simmers, and the beauty of choosing your partner even in the midst of growing pains and uncertainties. Those testing moments encourage vulnerability and deepen connection, which is how we can truly expand and thrive.” The Forty-Five called the collaboration a “feel-good track” with”two mellow voices uniting over a brass section for a sunny choral harmony.”
