Holly Wilks – Box Dye

Holly Wilks

Emerging West London artist Holly Wilks returns with her melodic new single ‘Box Dye’ via APOLLO Distribution, the latest release from her forthcoming EP, due later this year.

Mellow yet stirring, ‘Box Dye’ unfolds in layers, blending textured indie sensibilities with a pop-leaning core.

Written alone in her bedroom and later brought to life in the studio, ‘Box Dye’ captures a familiar cycle of self-reinvention and quiet dissatisfaction. Holly explains:

“The song was born from the realisation that I am often trying to distract myself from my inner disillusionment with myself by trying to reinvent myself externally – be that buying a new wardrobe, getting a fringe, or a trip to Boots to buy a box dye. This has proved to be a more relatable narrative than expected as I tried the song out at gigs last year, with lots of people singling it out as their favourite of the set. .”

The track was produced with long-term collaborator Finn Thornton alongside newer creative partner Mac Adams, striking a balance between intimacy and polish. Smooth, soulful vocals glide over an upbeat, rhythmic foundation, allowing the emotion to sit front and centre without feeling heavy-handed.

Lyrically candid and quietly observational, ‘Box Dye’ speaks to a generation navigating self-doubt, identity and change – music that offers comfort through honesty.

The single arrives ahead of a sold-out headline show at St Pancras Clock Tower on 29 January, marking a strong start to what promises to be a significant year for the artist. With new music on the way and growing live momentum, Holly Wilks continues to create a sound that feels intimate and  assured.
