BLOODSPORTS BY Meghan Hancock

New York City rock group bloodsports are excited to share the final preview off their upcoming debut album, Anything Can Be A Hammer, available digitally and via Cassette and Vinyl on October 17, 2025 via Good English Records.

Anything Can Be A Hammer,

“Rot” chugs along, balancing tension with silence and softness, before melting into discordance. The song eventually breaks apart from itself, charging forth with illusions of self interest and piercing drums.

“Rot” is about someone who has ended a relationship, and trying to justify their behavior that led to the split, blaming the other for mistakes they’ve made,” bandleader Sam Murphy explains. “Eventually it deteriorates into a self-obsessed, egotistical delusion resulting in the screamed line of “how can you smile, when god is my audience”. This song has existed in various forms for years, and is definitely the oldest song on the album but it’s still one of my favorites and one of the most cathartic to play live.”

bloodsports is also excited to announce their album release show, presented by Stereogum and Good English. The show will take place on Saturday, October 18 at Union Pool in Brooklyn, NY and feature performances from bloodsports, Venus Twins, Vangas and a DJ set from Shower Curtain.

Since the band’s inception in 2023, bloodsports has been on the cutting edge of disjointed, hard hitting guitar music, making a name for themselves within Brooklyn’s DIY scene for their dynamic performances. Earlier this summer, bloodsports announced their signing to Good English Records, a new independent label based out of New York, NY and Nashville, TN. With the announcement, they announced their debut record and shared “Rosary,” a slow building track that explores regrets through reminiscing about the past, patiently wading through the emotions, working towards a huge sonic payoff.

Last month, the band shared “Calvin”, a blistering, disjointed track filled with vignettes of dreamstates, sewn together by churning guitars and unrelenting urgency.

Last year, they shared “Canary,” a standalone single that exposed the band’s tight edged inclinations and sentimental songwriting.

Their eponymous debut EP arrived in 2023 via Candle Pin Records, with string oriented slowcore track “Sky Mall” leading the release.

On their imminent debut, bloodsports are more refined and empowered than ever, fearlessly tearing through nine tracks of clean cut guitars, orchestral arrangements and transformative lyricism. #bloodsportsonline
