MAREYA – Happy Girl

MAREYA

Fresh off the emotional punch of her latest single “I’m So Sorry”, Māori Pop/Alt powerhouse MAREYA is back with her boldest release yet, ‘Happy Girl’, the third single from her forthcoming debut EP, Glitter Tears. Equal parts raw confession and glitter-drenched rebellion, the track solidifies Mareya’s reputation as one of the most exciting new forces in pop.

“Happy Girl” is a messy, unfiltered journal entry turned anthem, capturing the turbulence of mental health struggles, the disorientation of losing your identity, and the triumph of reclaiming it. With its theatrical camp-pop flair, pop-punk drive, and soaring vocal delivery, the single wears its irony proudly while transforming pain into power.

“I wrote Happy Girl when I felt anything but happy,” Mareya shares. “I was in the middle of an identity crisis, and I wasn’t even ‘done’ with feeling crap when I wrote the rejoiced ending! I wrote that part as a kind of manifesto out of that feeling, and you know what? It kind of worked.”

Born in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and now based in Naarm/Melbourne, Mareya is more than a rising star—she is a genre-bending producer, songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist pioneering a new lane of empowered, mental health–inspired pop. Her debut single “Need You Now” hit No. 1 on the Brazilian Dance iTunes Chart and climbed to Top 20 across Australia, while her music has already earned spins across Europe, the UK, and the USA. On stage, she’s shared lineups with DJ Morning Maxwell, Phil Ceberano and supported icons The Veronicas.

Now signed to Tomboi Records, Mareya’s upcoming EP Glitter Tears is set to be a defining statement: a fearless collection tackling mental health, identity, womanhood, and resilience in the face of society’s expectations. With unflinching honesty, soaring hooks, and a fearless embrace of vulnerability, Mareya is not just releasing songs—she’s building anthems for a new generation.

“Happy Girl” marks a powerful step in this journey, turning grit, chaos, and glitter into an irresistible manifesto of rediscovered joy.
