MEGA – My Bones

Rising singer and songwriter MEGA aka Megaishername is taking back her power with an awe-inspiring, fiery anthem “My Bones.”
As the centerpiece of her forthcoming body of work, I Am Enough, MEGA shares her most personal effort to date, reflecting on her Ugandan roots over sun-kissed guitar riffs, warm djembe bass tones, and a soulful brass section. MEGA’s unmistakable voice is golden, emotive, and fiercely commanding. In a time when people around the world are facing obstacles and persecution based on where they come from, “My Bones” provides a soaring anthem for the fighters, the believers, and today’s super-women.
MEGA explains: “Over a period of time, I lost myself in environments that I can now see were toxic and were stripping me of my identity. ‘My Bones’ is about taking that power back that I once gave away, but not just taking that power back, but standing strong in that power… I feel like confidence comes from doing things we are afraid of. The more we leave our comfort zone, fear will be there to meet us every time. Last year, I made so many changes that felt scary at the time, but they were some of the most important changes of my life. Writing ‘My Bones’ was me taking that first step and remembering that my uniqueness is my superpower.”
After sharing the song last week, MEGA unveils a breathtaking music video filmed on location in Uganda. It was directed by award-winning Ugandan filmmaker Frank Mugerwa and his local production company Jahlive Films. It was a profoundly moving experience for MEGA, who returned to Uganda for the first time in six years.
She explains: “This trip was about more than just filming – it was about reconnecting with the roots of who I am. Going back to Uganda, where my mum and dad grew up, allowed me to explore parts of my history I hadn’t fully connected with before. My dad passed when I was younger, so it was really special to visit the towns and villages where he and my mum spent their early years – and to include that in the video.”
“One of the most powerful scenes for me is the shot in the wooden canoe on Lake Victoria. Just behind me is the town where my parents grew up. The traditional attire I wore in that scene pays homage to the Buganda Kingdom, which is part of my lineage. Buganda is the largest traditional kingdom in Uganda, with a rich cultural history led by a Kabaka (king) and prime minister. The shield and spear – symbols you’ll see referenced in the video – represent strength, unity, and tradition in Bugandan culture. Wearing that outfit and being in that location, I truly felt powerful and grounded in my heritage.”
“More than anything, I wanted to showcase the beauty of Uganda – its culture, landscapes, and people. This trip turned out to be one of the most healing and powerful experiences of my life.”
This track represents a significant moment in the ‘I Am Enough’ journey — a tonal gear-shift. Where the EP’s title track “I Am Enough” introduced listeners to a quiet, inner knowing, and “Roots” explored grounding and belonging, “My Bones” is the fiery victory lap. It’s the turning point — where reflection turns into momentum, vulnerability transforms into power, and belief becomes unshakable.
MEGA’s music is a vivid tapestry of influences, drawing from her Ugandan heritage, childhood experiences in choirs, and love of a broad spectrum of genres, including soul, pop, and indie. Early champions include the likes of The Independent, NME, Wonderland, Clash, and support across BBC Radio. Her debut single, “Chariot,” has now surpassed 50 million streams and led to two acclaimed EPs, Future Me and Colour Your World, praised for their mix of traditional African rhythms, empowering messages, and themes of mental resilience. MEGA first discovered her passion for singing in an opera choir, and then, like many of the greatest vocalists, sang in a youth choir (the legendary St Mary’s alma mater of Leona Lewis and Little Simz).
MEGA recently headlined the contemporary Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre, receiving a rapturous response from fans. The 30th edition of the festival was curated by Little Simz and MEGA was joined on the bill by other hand-picked artists, including The Streets, Sasha Keable, Lola Young, Ghetts, and Jon Batiste.
The power of her music is evident in its unique ability to connect with a global fanbase and unite people from every walk of life. The communal nature is palpable when MEGA plays live – a remarkable sight. MEGA has sold out shows across Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, and her hometown of London, gracing stages of some of the UK and Europe’s most notable festivals, including Reading & Leeds Festival, Cross The Tracks, Latitude, and Montreux Jazz Festival. Performing on stage has become a second nature to MEGA, further honed over the years on tours with the likes of Cat Burns, Self Esteem, Hozier & more.
Rather than searching for our place in the world, MEGA’s latest single “My Bones” invites us to go one step further: To connect with our power. To own our story. To claim the win.
