NIIVA – Fussy

NIIVA x Priyanka by Wade Muir

Bulgarian-born, Canadian-based pop artist NIIVA, proudly unveils her most personal and daring work yet, her sophomore EP, Fussy.

Fussy

An unapologetic celebration of womanhood, the EP is bold, playful, and unabashedly self-honoring, capturing the layered complexity of femininity with sonic precision and emotional punch. Built for the girls, the gays, and anyone who’s ever been called too much, NIIVA offers a cinematic pop masterclass in self-love, joy, and inner strength that shine like the disco balls she dances under. With Fussy, she invites listeners to embrace their full selves – no edits, no apologies.

NIIVA says of the EP:

“This EP is an unapologetic celebration of all the facets of women, in all our beautiful shades of sensual, fussy, fun, messy, intoxicating, and everything in between, all at once. It’s a collection of characteristics that society often tries to shame us for, but which I’m officially reclaiming and reframing – “fussy” is a compliment. I wanted to convey this multi-dimensional state of being not only in the lyrics and themes, but also in the mix of sounds and instrumentation: orchestral strings overtop of a gritty baseline, angelic harmonies overtop of a dirty beat. I hope when you listen, that you see these parts in yourself and the women you love, and celebrate them too.”

Setting the tone for NIIVA’s bold new era, “Girls” is a playful love letter to the sisterhood and chaos of getting ready for a night out, channeling the elevated club-pop energy of all your favorite early 2000s playlists. Flirty and hypnotic, “Pillow Hopping” struts in with NIIVA completely in control and flagrantly fierce, singing, “I’m not in love but / I dance like I am / I’m just a little bit in too deep / ‘Cause I can”.

“Belladonna – Full Moon” slows things down with rich, emotional piano, a luscious track that sounds like the humid soul-pop lovechild of Rihanna and Adele. Deliciously languid, NIIVA’s vocals soar in this enigmatically vampy track.

The title track, “Fussy”, is a cocky, high-gloss pop anthem for the girls who know what they want and aren’t afraid to raise a little hell to get it. With biting wit, bouncy production, and an unapologetic attitude, the track perfectly struts the line between bratty and empowered – serving glam, grit, and a little growl. And just when you think it can’t get any fiercer, Canada’s Drag Race winner, Queen Priyanka, storms the bridge with a deliciously chaotic verse that’s equal parts diva and dominator.

Queen Priyanka shares about the collaboration:

“The minute I heard this song – I felt immediate jealousy that the world hasn’t gotten to hear it yet. NIIVA will be taking over the world and I’m so excited to bless everyone with some world domination energy on “Fussy.” I love the idea of owning your fuss, the thing we try to hide to ‘play it cool.’ Everything in life makes sense when we get to say “give me what I want dummy” – iconic!”

Finally, “Pop Quiz” echoes the irresistibly provocative pop stylings of Britney Spears with a  mischievous string section and groovy bass, proving yet again that NIIVA is the pop powerhouse we’ve all been waiting for.
