Chase Petra – Have Faith, Horatio
Today, Chase Petra share video for new track “Have Faith, Horatio” off their their highly anticipated new album, Lullabies For Dogs, which arrives on March 7 via Wax Bodega.
The band will also be hitting the road with Small Crush + Sorry Mom this Spring with a number of dates either sold out or close to it.
“Have Faith, Horatio” is a fairly straight-forward tune. It’s about faith – and although the primary focus of the song is faith in the context of organized religion – it can really be applied to any institution or topic (i.e. faith in a political ideology, a person, or even yourself). Overarchingly the song is steeped in disappointment and frustration with some heavy-handed allusions to the ways in which religious proselytization is something of a scourge on society.
I for one was not raised within any particular religion but as a kid I was roped into the teen worship concerts in disguise and I was caught up in the, “well, if she’s sleeping over on a Saturday, she’s gonna have to go to church with us on the Sunday.” I was told that I was going to hell, that abortion is a sin, that being gay is a sin, that God hates me and would smite me down, and on and on. What an absolute drag, am I right?
So, in short, this one’s for everyone that’s managed to deconstruct their religious beliefs and their preconceived notions of the world in general. You deserve a drink and also a hug probably.
