Everly Lux – Talk Tales

Montreal-based experimental folk artist Everly Lux releases her debut album Talk Tales today.

The 14-track LP follows her 2023 EP Selfhood and expands her distinctive sound, weaving together folk songwriting, experimental textures, and electronic elements. To celebrate the release, Lux will present the album live on March 27 at Brasserie Beauharnois in Montreal.
Eerie, immersive, and emotionally direct, Talk Tales moves fluidly between folk, pop, and rock while maintaining a strong focus on songwriting. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Aldous Harding, Björk, and Joanna Newsom, Lux blends acoustic traditions with electronic experimentation, using atypical instrumentation such as cello and harp to create a genre-defying sonic world.
Spanning 14 tracks, Talk Tales invites listeners into a carefully crafted musical journey. Songs such as “Sun Song,” “If I Could,” and “Anteroom” dive deep into Lux’s folk roots, while others – including “Three-legged Dog” and “ease” – venture into rock and even jazz-influenced territory. Throughout the album, sparse interludes like “sorry u have thin blood” and “ledge” shape the pacing, giving the record a distinctive narrative flow.
Inspired by landmark folk albums such as Townes Van Zandt and Ys, while also listening heavily to artists like Mount Eerie and Saya Grey, Lux sought to build a sound that was both rooted in folk tradition and open to electronic and experimental textures.
“Overall, I think the record is a massive piece of art — a picture of two years of my life. It’s quiet but it’s loud. It’s intense but it’s subtle.”
For Lux, Talk Tales represents her most complete artistic statement to date. The album title reflects her understanding of songs as living stories shaped through dialogue.
“As a songstress, I often think of my songs as tales,” she explains. “I liked Talk Tales because of how direct it sounded, and how it implies that stories are not just told, but talked through — shaped by each teller and listener.”
For Lux, storytelling is an exchange. Her songs are intentionally direct and emotionally open, seeking connection with listeners.
“My music has always been bluntly honest — sometimes closer in spirit to punk than to traditional folk songwriting. Talk Tales is almost a call to dialogue. We must talk. We must respond to each other. I’m not interested in making music that doesn’t resonate with people. I want an exchange.” #everly.lux
