Issa Odyssea – thought daughter

London-based independent artist ISSA ODYSSEA returns with ‘thought daughter’ via APOLLO Distribution, an intimate and atmospheric alt-pop release that signals a subtle but definitive sonic shift in her sonic world. Sparse but carefully detailed, ‘Thought Daughter’ feels suspended in its own internal dialogue.
Built on a guitar-led foundation, ‘Thought Daughter’ blends textured alt-pop synths with an indie rock undercurrent, layered over fractured rhythms that shift and evolve throughout. Its unconventional A-side/B-side structure mirrors the oscillation of inner turmoil, while the vocals are raw and exposed, carrying the weight of intimate confession.
At its core, the song explores what it means to be a “thought daughter” – deeply introspective, emotional and prone to overthinking.
“This is probably the most personal song I’ve ever written, so releasing it feels incredibly vulnerable.” ISSA explains. “Perhaps that speaks to the very point of it. It seems songwriting is the one place I can show up with my walls down. Unlike sitting in a room with a therapist – I wasn’t so good at that. Although she’d probably argue that thinking I needed to be was part of the problem.”
The phrase “friends with the devil” frames the song’s meditation on how protective we can become over our destructive tendencies and often adopt them as sacred parts of our identity. “It’s much easier to hold onto, and even repress trauma, than to really acknowledge and sit with it. Opening up feels exposing and scary. I don’t know the psychology behind it all but I guess rather than chasing away our demons, we instinctively try to hide them instead.”
Following a year of growing live momentum and playlist support, ‘Thought Daughter’ feels less like a departure and more like a deepening. It marks a moment of artistic clarity as she steps into a version of her artistry that feels more vulnerable and exposing.
