BER – Cool, Boy

Ber releases her sweetly mid-temp new single “Cool, Boy” off her long-awaited debut album Good, Like It Should Be, out April 3.
Arriving on the heels of recent fan favorites “Who’s This,” “Good, Real,” and “Book Cover,” the track further showcases Ber’s singular gift for blending tender lyricism, gentle humor, and vivid honesty into songs that feel both intimate and instantly relatable.
On “Cool, Boy,” Ber reflects on a pseudo-situationship that clarified what she didn’t want in a future romance. Built around breezy pop textures and an easygoing melodic pull, the song explores emotional detachment and the frustration of being involved with someone who was “too cool” to acknowledge real feelings. “I felt like he was using me a little bit, and he was too cool to actually acknowledge any emotions anywhere. We created a character loosely based on that guy,” Ber explains.
Sonically, “Cool, Boy” stands apart from the rest of the album, leaning further into bright, pop-forward territory. “That song surprised me a lot,” Ber says. “It’s in a different lane than the rest of the album, but in a really fun way. I loved being able to chase a pop song; it took me out of my little country bubble for a moment.”

The new single offers another glimpse into Good, Like It Should Be, a 12-track collection shaped by joy, introspection, and the hard-won peace of finally letting good things in. Primarily written in Pepin, Wisconsin and Minneapolis alongside frequent collaborators Rob Milton (Holly Humberstone, The 1975) and Bradley Hale (Now, Now), the album moves fluidly from shimmering alt-pop to country-leaning warmth. Each track feels like a snapshot of Ber learning to trust her happiness, embrace love without hesitation, and step into the most grounded version of herself yet.
From the euphoric brightness of “Good, Real” to the tongue-in-cheek glow of “Who’s This,” the emotional weight of “Book Cover,” and now the breezy clarity of “Cool, Boy,” Ber continues to build a world rooted in compassion, self-awareness, and emotional truth. Good, Like It Should Be captures an artist stepping forward with confidence, not because everything is perfect, but because it finally feels true.
