Ella Fence – Couple Kids

Ella Fence2

Out Friday, November 7, Ella Fence returns with ‘Couple Kids’, a slow-burning indie rock track that evolves into something big.

Through reverb-soaked guitars and soaring harmonies, she delivers a sound that moves from fragile to unrestrained emotion. The release arrives ahead of Ella’s December tour dates supporting internationally touring artist Sofia Isella, with performances across major venues in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

With over five million Spotify streams, Ella Fence has built a loyal international following and earned multiple Gold Coast Music Awards, plus a Best Development Artist nomination at the Australian Women in Music Awards.

Her decade-long career has taken her to stages across Canada, the UK and Europe, and she has supported leading Australian artists, including Kate Miller-Heidke, Washington, Baker Boy and Katie Noonan, with appearances at major festivals across the country.

Leading towards a massive end to the year, this newest track from Ella Fence has her reflecting on moments of wanting to run away – not out of pain, but out of recognition. It explores the passage into adulthood, recognising that there is always an inevitable loss, where there is love. Ella shares:

“It’s about the quiet urge to escape, and the tenderness that comes with finally understanding where that desire comes from. I’m thankful for the space music gives me to explore that in a healthy way.”

An ever-evolving track, ‘Couple Kids’ patiently awaits to bloom. It begins in stillness, with spacious guitars awash in reverb and Ella’s dulcet vocals yearn with longing. It then sways with a gentle pulse as percussion enters, gradually building through layers of synth and electric guitar. Ella’s vocal stretches higher while harmonies push and pull around her. To close out, the rhythm straightens, the tempo rises, and her voice lifts with newfound clarity, joined by rich backing harmonies that carry a sense of hard-won hope.

That same rising energy carries into the live setting, with Ella Fence joining Sofia Isella this December as a special guest on her headline national tour. The run includes The Triffid in Brisbane on Tuesday, 9th December, Palais Theatre in Melbourne on Wednesday, 10th December, and The Roundhouse in Sydney on Friday, 12th December.

‘Couple Kids’ arrives Friday, November 7, marking a fitting prelude to Ella’s December tour alongside Sofia Isella.
