Floodlights – Tricky

Australian rock outfit Floodlights today share their latest offering “Tricky” ahead of their upcoming shows in the UK supporting Australian punk quartet Amyl and the Sniffers.
“Tricky” marks a fresh turn for the band while staying true to the distinctive sound that defined their latest album Underneath. Capturing a new synth-heavy sound, the band look into the more abstract, euphoric moments that come from letting go of the past and embracing the future, explaining “Love can be tricky and humans can be tricky too”.
They continue, “We felt like tipping everything upside down with this one so went a little more DIY. We recorded
‘Tricky’ in our Melbourne studio with Archie [Shannon] in the engineer seat, and shot and edited the video ourselves which features Joey [Draffen] dancing around the UK during tour”.
“We just wanted to make something that felt like us stepping towards change. We recorded in a way that left space for spontaneity – prepared without being overly planned. We leant heavily on rhythm and synth for this love song which felt invigorating, trying to bridge the gap between rock and dance, sadness and euphoria.”
The project of Louis Parsons, Ashlee Kehoe, Archie Shannon, Joe Draffen and Sarah Hellyer, Floodlights first gained global attention with their 2019 EP Backyard and 2020 critically acclaimed debut album From a View, before returning in April 2023 with their crowning second studio album Painting of My Time. Their latest album is Underneath.
