Jodie Langford – S.T.B.Y.

With stunning performances to packed venues at The Great Escape (Brighton), Beat-Herder (Sawley, Lancs), Humber Street Sesh (Hull) & recent gigs with Get Down Services, Bureau De Change, Wench! & others, Hull’s much-loved spoken word artist Jodie Langford continues to electrify stages across the UK with her unique blend of electro party punk. Following on from her previous single “I See Only Red”, Jodie now releases the track “S.T.B.Y”. & announces the release of her debut album Softly Spoken out Oct 24th on Warren Records.
With production duties supplied by Jodie’s musical sidekick & Hull’s ‘King of Electro” Endoflevelbaddie, the track S.T.B.Y. with its dark atmospheric beats & futuristic electro-industrial hooks is lyrically inspired by the Manchester bard John Cooper Clarke’s poem ‘Twat’ – a tongue in cheek ode to all that annoys & frustrates… Jodie explains: “I’m a big fan of John Cooper Clarke & I think his poem TWAT is ace & S.T.B.Y (sucks to be you) is inspired by that. I don’t really have any enemies or anybody that I hate, so this track isn’t about anyone in particular – but I just found it fun to play around with metaphors & similes. It’s also a great release for me to just yell for a bit & pretend that I’m fuming. Otherwise, bolognaise stained containers also really get on my nerves, so I wanted to find some way to fit that into a song”.
Jodie Langford is a firm staple of the Hull music scene, who over the past year or so has become a festival showstopper, dominating stages across the UK with her unique blend of electro party punk. She uses her ferocious voice & incredible wordplay to deliver a delicious combination of confrontational dissections of society, with tongue-in-cheek references & interesting wordplay, all delivered with a self-deprecating attitude. Coupled with her unique voice comes an incredible talent to turn personal experiences into relatable, dry & funny lyrical content, tackling everything from downing pints, dead-end jobs & the government’s treatment of young people to more personal relationship issues. Always by her side on both records & live is trusted producer/DJ Endoflevelbaddie, who channels her raw unfiltered energy & carves a sound that darts between thrashing post-punk sensibilities, fevered techno rhythms & filthy drum & bass chaos.
Following last year’s Reading & Leeds Festival appearance on the BBC Introducing stage, Jodie started 2025 with a bang touring alongside London’s Bureau De Change & playing Radio X DJ John Kennedy’s Remedy night at Signature Brew London. With the debut album Softly Spoken on its way, plus support for Russian art punk protest collective Pussy Riot at Futureyard & an Equinox Festival slot upcoming, the outspoken, thought-provoking Jodie Langford, along with Endoflevelbaddie, are here to have a good time & if you get it, you get it! Come join the fun!
